Pre-Made Or Homemade Survival Kits?

!±8± Pre-Made Or Homemade Survival Kits?

The Survival Kit's in a Bottle usually run from .95 to .00 according to where you purchase them. These kits use the LEXAN® see through bottle as its basic component. The company advertises it as the ideal item for outdoor type people and comes complete with 12 items of survival equipment.

The point here that I would like to make is that you can easily create your own kit possibly with supplies that you may already have on hand. To start off you can purchase the 32 oz or 1L plastic bottle from your local dollar store. This bottle can be used for holding all your survival gear such as matches, etc and ultimately would be for placing water into. You would need to use water purification tables in order to make the water drinkable.

Also available at the dollar store are very small flashlights. You would want to keep one of these in your kit also. I do not recommend that you install the batteries in the flashlight but rather keep a pack in the bottle. In addition, beware of purchasing batteries from the dollar store. They simply do not hold up well. You would be better off purchasing some quality batteries or even better rechargeable.

A solar Emergency Blanket will fit nicely in the bottle. This blanket will help you maintain your body temperatures in the cool evenings should they be required. They can be used to protect you from the elements such as cold and sun. Since they are reflective they can easily be used as a signaling device to contact passing aircraft.

An emergency poncho takes up little room and you can purchase a package of three at the dollar store. These ponchos take little space from your bottle and tend to protect you from rain and snow while serving as a ground cloth, windbreak shelter and a solar still.

A signal mirror is a good item to include in your kit as it can be used to provide a signal to rescue teams should the need arise. To your signal mirror you would be wise to add a loud whistle so you can use an audio to alter your potential rescuers. It not only saves on your voice but also can be much louder and hear at a further distance.

A compass that you attach to the cap of your bottle can be a great asset when you need to determine where your relative location is.

A small quantity of nylon string can be useful for many purposes such as shelter lashing, or pack repair. Waterproof Matches can be placed inside a small piece of aluminum foil.

One of the most useful items you can have in your kit is a fire starter flint. The original kit has this item built into the side of whistle however with the strong glues out today you should have no problems placing it anywhere that you have the extra room. This item is great for starting fire even if it has been wet.

Of course you would want to attach a 3 inch carabineer to your water bottle to enable you to easily attach it to your belt, etc.

Don't forget to include a small waterproof zip loc bag or two. They fold easily and take up little space but can serve as a water carrier if need be.

To make your kit more useful you may wish to include water tablets, some Tylenol, a small bottle of bug spray, some sun screen and a small container of hand sanitizer. You could include several dried out baby wipes for use as a field toilet paper item.

I would like to add a precaution at this point that when tighten your bottle do not get over zealous and make it to tight as you will take a chance on stripping the threads.

Must Have Tactical Gear for Paintball Players

!±8± Must Have Tactical Gear for Paintball Players

There are a growing number of MilSim paintball scenario games being produced each year. Paintball players that participate in these games want to be equipped with the right tactical support equipment on the field. Having solid tactical gear gives players an advantage that can mean the difference between being bathed in glory on the field of battle or wallowing in the stench of defeat. Two pieces of tactical support equipment paintball players shouldn't be without are hydration packs and combat boots.

Dehydration is one of the most common reasons why players fall out on the field. Canteens and water bottles are not practical on the field since players have to remove their masks to take a drink. Hydration packs have a flexible straw that can be inserted under the mask to allow players to safely drink on the field. Players that stay hydrated on the field will perform better, get more trigger trim and are less likely to succumb to heat exhaustion.

Since most MilSim games are played in heavily wood areas, combat boots are another "must have" on the field. They protect feet against brambles, ankle twists and stubbed toes. They also provide superior traction for play in slippery, muddy areas. Some styles can even provide minimal protection against snake bites.

Though this list of needed tactical gear is far from inclusive, those just beginning to play MilSim scenario games should definitely invest in these two items. Beginning MilSim paintball players might also consider adding knee and elbow pads, ghillie suits or other styles of camouflage outwear and various types of lighting for night play into their tactical gear kits.

The Advantages Of Playing Paintball Outdoors

!±8± The Advantages Of Playing Paintball Outdoors

Paintball is a growing sport that can be played both indoors and outdoors with everyone having their own preference as to which is better. The scenario games are much more fun and really need to be played outside. With the popularity of paintball there are outdoor paintball fields popping up all over and there is sure to be one somewhere near you. The thing that is cool about the larger fields is that there are all kinds of hiding places to use and explore.

Most of the outdoor paintball fields are located in wooded areas or in large open fields that have been modified with buildings, castles, bunkers, junk cars, etc. These are really cool because they help to recreate an urban warfare experience, kind of good training and practice for military guys too.

The type of paintball games played in wooded areas is sometimes called "Woodsball" and is the most realistic form of paintball for most paintball players. When you are playing the sport in the woods it is simulating jungle warfare and you really have to be up on jungle skills. Stealth and camouflage is important is these games and can make or break your success on this type of field. Someone with excellent skills could be lying right next to you and you wouldn't know it until they popped you. On the other side of the coin there are also team variations that are very well played out in wooded scenarios where working together and knowing when to fire and when to duck and cover is crucial.

There are fields being developed now called scenario fields which are mostly played at commercial paintball locations with the most popular being the urban assault fields. These fields are made up of false structures many times resembling multiple story buildings with window cutouts to make for easy sniper shooting. They also will feature junked cars to hide behind and many other urban related objects. These types of games play out extremely fast and are always full of action and adventure.

Still another type of field is the speedball field with numerous bunkers all over. Most of these fields are lager although the smaller ones can be fun to play with the bunkers closer together which causes continual firefights from start to finish. If you intend to play on this type of field you need to have excellent awareness and good peripheral vision to keep from being hit quickly and put out of the game. The way the bunkers are placed usually will not give you full cover so you constantly have to move and adjust your position.

Whether you choose to play indoors or outdoors, wooded field or on a scenario field one thing is for sure, you will have fun.
